Mars (Mangal), the aggressive planet, and Venus (Shukra), the affectionate and luxury loving planet, are coming in a position of mutual opposition on 27th January 2010.

An opposition is a placement of two planets where they are directly opposite to each other in degrees. They are at 180 degrees to each other.

This also means that these two planets are in signs which are directly opposite to each other. These signs are, therefore, in a first house - seventh house axis in a horoscope.

Every sign lies directly opposite to the sign which lies in seventh position to itself in a Kundali or a horoscope. Here is a list of the basic six zodiacal oppositions which are found in a horoscope:

Aries (Mesh) - opposite to - Libra (Tula)
Taurus (Vrishabh) - opposite to - Scorpio (Vrishchik)
Gemini (Mithun) - opposite to - Sagittarius (Dhanu)
Cancer (Karka) - opposite to - Capricorn (Makar)
Leo (Simha) - opposite to - Aquarius (Kumbh)
Virgo (Kanya) - opposite to - Pisces (Meen)

Now, any planet placed in Aries will also be in opposition to a planet which is placed in Libra. And if they are at same degrees in these two signs then they come in exact opposition.

This mutual opposition of planets forms a yoga which is called a ' Samsaptak' yoga in Jyotish terminology. A Samsaptak yoga can give very powerful results, both good and bad, depending on the nature, effects, mutual interactions and the zodiac sign of the planets involved in this opposition.

The reverse is a conjunction, which means that the planets are in the same sign and called a ' Yuti' in Jyotish terminology. Some days ago Sun and Venus came in perfect conjunction or 'Yuti' which made Venus perfectly combust too.

As of today, Venus and Sun are in transit in Capricorn (Makar) Rashi and Mars transits Cancer (Karka). So, Venus is in a Yuti with Sun and is in a Samsaptak Yoga with Mars. Sun and Mars too are in a Samsaptak. This combination of planets makes Venus quite weak and it is unable to give its beneficial effects.

As Venus symbolizes Comforts, Travels, Food, Love and Arts, we can observe that all these parts of daily are not up to satisfactory levels today. Travels are majorly affected as flights, railways and roadways are stopped or delayed due to bad weather.

Food prices are high and the common man is unable to afford the earlier comfortable lifestyle today. Parties are lesser in frequency now and the overall enjoyment has gone down.

On 27th January, when Mars and Venus are exactly opposite ot each other, this situation can be at its worst. Vehicular accidents can increase. Marital discord can increase too. Those people who have Venus placed in an important beneficial position will bear the maximum brunt of this Samsaptak yoga.

Also, the people who are governed by Venus like the celebrities, actors, musicians and other entertainers will be highly influenced by this opposition. There can be deaths or other calamities affecting some famous entertainers.

Crimes related to Venus are on increase. These are crimes related to women, marriage, sex, vehicular thefts, malpractices and piracy of copyrighted products in entertainment industry, and so on.

The situation changes and improves only when Venus moves to Aquarius on 6th February 2010. If possible avoid traveling long distances on 27th January 2010.
