What is the difference between a Citrine and an Amethyst? PDF Print E-mail

A Citrine is a gemstone belonging to the Quartz family. It is extremely rare in nature and the natural Citrine can be almost priceless. It has yellow to orange colour.

Amethyst is a purple coloured gemston which too is a stone of the Quartz family. It is used as a gemstone for Saturn. Its easy availability has reduced its demand and price but it was once a much sought after and rare gemstone.

An interesting quality of Amethyst is that it turns to yellow when it is heated. Thus an Amethyst gets converted into a Citrine when it is heated. Almost all Citrines in market today are heated Amethysts. This is the reason why Citrines are much affordable as compared to other gemstones today.
