Pukhraj has come from the Sanskrit term 'Pushparag'. The usually available yellow or pale sapphires are called 'Pushparag', which means 'having the colour of a flower'. Pukhraj is the most common term used for Sapphires in India. The rare orange, orange-pink or pink variety of Sapphire is called Padmarag in Sanskrit which means 'one having the colour of a lotus'. |
