Sapphires come in various colours the most common of which are pale, yellow, blue, purple and the colourless variety also know as a white sapphire. The Colours like Golden, Pink, Orange and Green are very rare in Sapphires. Among these green is the rarest. This is why the green sapphires, Oriental Emeralds, are the most expensive of all sapphires. Due to its green colour the Oriental Emerald is used as a remedial gemstone in Jyotish for Mercury (Budh). It has very powerful effects on the wearer which are almost ten times more effective than an Emerald. If given an option one must always choose an oriental emerald over a simple emerald for use as a Jyotish gem. Oriental emeralds are also a good collector's item and people collect them due to their extreme rare occurence in nature.

I am truly impressed by Ashutosh's knowledge about gems. He is a rare and wonderful combination of a gemologist and an excellent vedic astrologer.
